Professional profile
Nursing is a multifaceted profession focusing on persons’ and families’ health and psychosocial needs and concerns. Nursing happens in partnership with patients and families and in close collaboration with other health professionals and experts. Nursing services are provided in diverse institutional and community settings in a highly complex health care system.
The nursing profession faces many demands. Nurses need expert clinical skills, excellent competencies in relationship building and personal qualities. Moreover, nursing warrants professionals who know the details of a complex health care system and develop innovative problem-solving strategies. Nursing needs persons who provide relevant nursing services and activities, and contribute their comprehensive knowledge to the development of the profession and to quality care.
The Bachelor’s degree programme at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW) enables our graduates to meet the challenges of today’s and a future health care system. Students acquire necessary practical and theoretical expertise enabling them to analyse processes of care, develop relevant concepts, and implement real solutions to complex nursing situations.
In teaching-learning, we emphasize evidence-based practice, integrating latest scientific knowledge, patients’ preferences and reflected professional experiences. Graduates are thus enabled to develop and apply effective nursing methods.
